Bottom line: As of 20 October 2026 the CS2 map pool has seven maps: Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage and Nuke. The last change was Valve's update note of 8 July 2026 (Cache in, Overpass out), the fifth one-in, one-out swap since April 2024. In our results (completed pro matches in our match data), no map started or stopped being played on the day of Valve's update note, and in three of the five changes the new map was played before it. Bans and win rates for each map are on the maps page.
The CS2 map pool today
- Ancient: no Valve note has removed it since CS2 launched on 27 September 2023.
- Anubis: back in the pool since 21 January 2026.
- Cache: in the pool since 8 July 2026.
- Dust II: back in the pool since 25 April 2024.
- Inferno, Mirage and Nuke: no Valve note has removed any of them since launch.
Valve calls this list the Active Duty map pool. In its note of 25 April 2024, Valve replaced Overpass with Dust 2 "in the Active Duty Group, current competition map pool, and Premier matchmaking". In that note, one change to the list covered all three.
Valve's note of 25 April 2024 writes Dust 2, and our maps page writes Dust2. This page writes Dust II.
The map veto is where teams ban and choose maps. The map veto glossary entry explains the steps, and our veto study shows what pro teams ban and choose.
Every pool change since April 2024
Valve has changed the pool five times since April 2024. Each change swapped exactly one map for one other.
| Valve note | Map in | Map out |
|---|---|---|
| 25 Apr 2024 | Dust II | Overpass |
| 28 Jan 2025 | Train | Vertigo |
| 16 Jul 2025 | Overpass | Anubis |
| 21 Jan 2026 | Anubis | Train |
| 8 Jul 2026 | Cache | Overpass |
Every date and every added or removed map comes from Valve's Counter-Strike 2 posts in the Steam news feed. Read it as the raw feed, a JSON file you can search for "Active Duty", or on the Steam news hub for the game, which lists posts newest first. Dates are the UTC date of each post, so a reader in another time zone can see a date one day different.
Between the first two changes came 278 days. After that, the three gaps were 169, 189 and 168 days.
Dust II came back with the first change. Our results hold no pro map on Dust II for the first 213 days of the CS2 era, from 27 September 2023 to 26 April 2024. The first one is on 27 April 2024.
When pro play changes maps
Valve's update note gives the date of a change. This section sets that date against the days pros started and stopped playing each map in our results.
Days are the match's scheduled day in UTC. A map's first and last days are the two ends of a spell, which is a run of play on that map with no gap longer than 45 days. Offsets count days from Valve's update note, and a minus sign means before it.
| Valve date | Map in: first day played | Days from note | Map out: last day played | Days from note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25 Apr 2024 | Dust II: 27 Apr 2024 | +2 | Overpass: 22 May 2024 | +27 |
| 28 Jan 2025 | Train: 13 Jan 2025 | -15 | Vertigo: 22 Dec 2024 | -37 |
| 16 Jul 2025 | Overpass: 19 Jul 2025 | +3 | Anubis: 21 Jul 2025 | +5 |
| 21 Jan 2026 | Anubis: 14 Jan 2026 | -7 | Train: 10 Jan 2026 | -11 |
| 8 Jul 2026 | Cache: 25 Jun 2026 | -13 | Overpass: 29 Jun 2026 | -9 |
Two maps have two spells in the data. Overpass was played up to 22 May 2024, then from 19 July 2025 to 29 June 2026. Anubis's first spell ended on 21 July 2025 and its second began on 14 January 2026.
In three of the five changes, pros played the new map before the update note in our results: Train 15 days early, Anubis 7 and Cache 13. Overpass was still played 27 days after its April 2024 note. No map's first or last day fell on a note day.
Overpass had 26 pro maps in the week before the April 2024 note and 27 in the patch week, which started on 25 April. The next three weeks had 12, 4 and 2, and after that it had 0. So Overpass faded over the next three weeks rather than stopping on the day of the note. Dust II had 0 in the week before the note and 3 in the patch week.
Valve's update note is not always the first time Valve said it. Valve's own Steam post "Seasons Change" of 25 January 2025 already said "Train is in and Vertigo is out", three days before the update note of 28 January. Train's first pro map in our results, on 13 January 2025, came 12 days before that post. A news report from 22 June 2026 says Valve announced that Cache would replace Overpass, and Cache's first pro map in the data came 3 days after that report. We found no post from an earlier day about the other three changes in Valve's Steam feed, and the tables on this page use the update note for every date.
Our results hold no pro map of any kind from 23 December 2024 to 12 January 2025. Vertigo's last day, 22 December 2024, is just before that gap, and Train's first day, 13 January 2025, is in the first week back. We cannot tell from this data why a map moves early or late.
How much each map has been played since launch
In our results, this table counts 40,826 played pro maps on the ten maps that were in the pool at some point since CS2 launched. It runs from 27 September 2023 to 19 October 2026.
| Map | Pro maps | Share |
|---|---|---|
| Ancient | 7,365 | 18.0% |
| Mirage | 6,892 | 16.9% |
| Dust II | 6,045 | 14.8% |
| Nuke | 6,035 | 14.8% |
| Inferno | 4,924 | 12.1% |
| Anubis | 4,311 | 10.6% |
| Overpass | 1,949 | 4.8% |
| Vertigo | 1,248 | 3.1% |
| Cache | 1,051 | 2.6% |
| Train | 1,006 | 2.5% |
Ancient leads, and Dust II sits third, just ahead of Nuke. Cache, Train and Vertigo are lowest, partly because they spent the least time in the pool since CS2 launched.
The number of pro maps per quarter changed a lot: about 2,400 in October to December 2023 and about 7,300 in July to September 2026. So a map that was in the pool recently carries more weight in these shares.
Where to find each map's numbers
The maps page shows bans, map choices and CT-side win rates for the seven maps. CS2 map win rates covers side balance by map, and the map veto study covers bans and deciders.
Every map result counted on this page is a map in our match data. The match data guide shows how to pull each match's maps. For the API itself, see the CS2 API page.
