The list of ESL One: Cologne’s semi-finalists is mostly what we expected. It includes three top teams, Astralis, Navi and FaZe Clan, as well as X, who’ve not yet proven themselves.
The first quarterfinal match was between NaVi and Fnatic. Navi bested the Swedish team 2-0 in two maps. Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev, as always, had a big role in keeping NaVi in control, although according to the statistics, Egor ”flamie” Vasilyev was more valuable with his monster score of 54-27. Overpass was NaVi’s pick, which showed. Despite their losses in the pistol rounds, they had the upper hand all the way until their 16-12 win.
In their own map, Train, Fnatic was again overrun by NaVi. The score was 11-4 to NaVi as the teams switched sides. The score’s hardly a surprise for the terrorist side in a CT heavy map though. Unfortunately, Fnatic couldn’t recover on the CT side. NaVi picked up their second win with a 16-10 score, and advanced to semi-finals.
In the other semi-final match, we saw BIG battle it out against G2, who’re still figuring it out with their new roster. BIG chose Cache as their map pick, and took it to overtime and finally won 19-17. G2’s map pick was Dust 2, and there’s only one word that describers it: bloodbath. G2, in their own map, lost 16-1, which sent BIG to semi-finals against FaZe Clan.
The event continues soon with the first semi-final match, Astralis versus Navi. The official stream is available here.
