Fortnite’s competitive scene at the mercy of one team

Fortnite, the hottest video game at the moment, has taken further steps in the direction of competitive play with it’s Friday Fortnite tournaments. Most active followers of Fortnite’s scene likely already know that these are weekly online tournaments hosted by Daniel “KEEMSTAR” Keem with $20,000 prize pools. Two maps are played by default in the event’s two versus two matches, and after they finish, the combined kill count of each duo will decide the winner. In the case of a draw, a third map will be played. Double elimination format means that a team is eliminated from the tournament after two losses.

Another event named NerdOut Anything Goes was played on Sunday and it followed Friday Fortnite’s format along with the $20,000 prize pool. 64 names participated in the event, including Tyler ”Ninja” Belvins as well as the TSM duo Jimmy ”HighDistortion” Moreno and Daequan ”Daequan” Loco. A $10,000 slice of the prize money, which was reserved for the winners, was taken home by FaZe Clan’s Turner ”Tfue” Tenney and Dennis ”Cloak” Lepore. They beat Vikram ”Vikkstar123” Barn and Erikas ”ErycTriceps” Vaitkevicius in the grand finale by ten kills. The same duo has also won four of the nine Friday Fortnite events that have been played so far, so they have quite a grip on the scene right now. Nobody else has been able to win more than once.
